Five Things for Friday

Happy Friday!

We saw The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 last night! Oh. Em. Gee. LOVED it! Hopefully, I’ll get to see it again…and again…and again. I was so happy for finally see the last film in the series, but sad it’s over. My SO really enjoyed it, too, as it had it all: laughter, tears, suspense. Anyone else see it and love it?

Here are your Five Six Things for Friday!

CarnivalSpent a little time on the Carnival Cruise Line’s Elation yesterday morning. The Saints and Carnival are teaming up to fight hunger with Second Harvest.

IMG_2738Stopped by Monkey Monkey Coffee & Tea this week after dropping the pups off for a spa day at All-Star Animal Clinic. The chocolate pear muffin and chai tea latte were delish.

Have a great weekend!

Five Things for Friday

Happy Friday! T-minus one day until the Pelicans’ home opener! I’m really looking forward to Saturday. On Sunday, we have a Saints home game, too, so it’s an action-packed weekend. Today’s installment of Five Things for Friday includes TWO puppy pictures — I couldn’t resist snapping Jersey snuggling with her lion. She’s so cute.

IMG_1700Cutest Saturday morning date ever! Baby Will [and his mom, Julie] were the best shopping buddies at last weekend’s Kendra Scott store opening.

IMG_1769Tuesday was the start of the morning show circuit to promote some of our upcoming Pelicans games – was lucky to spend the morning with some fabulous Pelicans Dance Team members, Brianna and Taylor.

IMG_1903On Tuesday, Saints RB C.J. Spiller visited a local school as a part of the Fuel Up to Play 60 Campaign. SUDIA sponsored the visit and the kids were so energetic and had such a great time. Check out more about the visit here.

IMG_1755A rare photo of the pups snuggling…cuteness overload.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Geaux Pelicans & Saints!

Five Things for Friday

Today’s post is VERY Saints-centric! I couldn’t resist after a win like last night’s against the Falcons.

Popcorn display from last week’s Saints get together.

Quincy & Ryan (two of the Pelicans players) had pre-game interviews yesterday and enjoyed the sideline view for the first quarter. I can’t even pretend to know what they’re doing in this picture — clearly, it was torture hanging out with these guys! Haha!

We came home to a sign from our neighbor, Ms. Shiela; she’s a HUGE Saints fan and really must not like the Falcons.

Day-after-game breakfast of champions; Community Coffee and a fleur-de-lis cookie.

Excited to receive some re-purchases and some new products in the mail yesterday. Saks had its free gift with purchase, so I used the rest of my gift card to stock up. Clockwise from left: Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Eye (re-purchase), Kiehl’s Epidermal Re-Texturizing Micro-Dermabrasion (re-purchase), Dior Addict lipstick in Wonderful (thanks, Gal Meets Glam for your review; I wore it last night and LOVED it!), Bobbi Brown Smokey Eye Kajal Liner in Noir and Kiehl’s Fuel No-Shine Moisurizing Lip Balm. Looking forward to trying the new products out and reviewing them!

I hope everyone is looking forward to the weekend. I’m heading to the LSU/Florida game tomorrow — my first time in Death Valley! As much as it’s going to kill me as a Buckeye, I may have to wear purple and gold tomorrow. When in Rome, right?

Have a great weekend!

Wish List Wednesday

charitable shopping-2

This is probably my favorite Wish List Wednesday post to date!

A few years ago, I tried to start finding holiday and celebration gifts that had a charitable component. All of the items/companies I’ve linked to have a giving back aspect when you make a purchase — I just LOVED the idea of double giving when I bought gifts for people (or accessories for myself!).

I recently ordered #6 – a gorgeous necklace designed by Sophia Bush in collaboration with The Akola Project. The jewelry is gorgeous.

Ironically, Sophia Bush and 31 Bits (#1 & #8) collaborated on a few pieces as well, which was announced yesterday. I actually am hosting a little get together on Sunday to watch the Saints game that is doubling as a party to spread the word about 31 Bits’ beautiful jewelry AND mission.

Hope you enjoyed this post — there are so many great companies out there that give back. I’ll likely be sharing more as I found them, but wanted to highlight the ones I REALLY love in today’s post.

Have a great day and happy shopping!

P.S. NOLA friends – I have a TON of 31 Bits pieces at the house if you have any interest in checking them out in person or purchasing a piece. Some of the fall line is black and gold and they are SO great for Saints game days!

Weekend Recap & Tassel Necklace DIY

Happy Monday!

It’s a heck of a lot happier after the Saints win last night! Night games at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome are always special — the energy and crowd are always incredible. If you’re a sports fan, add it to your must-visit stadium list and come for a primetime game!

Last night’s game was the Saints’ Breast Cancer Awareness game at home. During pre-game, Katie Kelly was honored as a breast cancer survivor. She is so strong, inspiring and wonderful. You can learn more about her story here. It was so fun to hang out with her husband, his friend, Katie and her twin sister, Carrie, who I’ve known since we moved here, during pre-game and cheer for her during the presentation.

Friday night we went to Payton’s Play It Forward Foundation’s Black & Gold Gala at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. It was a beautiful event that benefited three amazing causes – Feed the Children, K9s for Warriors and Team Gleason. I feel so lucky to have been a part of the event’s committee – it was an incredible group of people to work with!

Had to borrow this great photo from Dennis Lomonaco’s Facebook page. IMG_1263IMG_1261

IMG_1274  IMG_1271Darius Rucker and Better Than Ezra performed, which was a blast, and the program included incredibly moving videos about each beneficiary. The highlight was meeting one of the veterans, Erick, and visiting with him and his SUPER sweet dog, Gumbo. We enjoyed spending time with the veterans and they all seemed to enjoy the evening so much. K9s for Warriors is such an incredible program and the dogs save the lives of soldier suffering from PTSD. The video showed a staggering statistic — 22 soldiers with PTSD commit suicide every day. The organization is saving so many lives.

With Suzanne (American Diabetes Association) and Morgan (Feed the Children); both used to work with the Hornets. Morgan was one of the first people I met when we moved to New Orleans.

Switching gears…

Today’s DIY is one that I really enjoyed creating. I am obsessed with tassels! I found a similar DIY one P.S. I Made This and wanted to create my own — using red for the upcoming Pelicans season, of course!

-Suede lace

-Embroidery floss

-Assorted jump rings

-Crimping pliers

-Chain-nose pliers

1 – Make your tassels. I can’t find it now, but I found a tutorial on Pinterest that was very easy to follow. The first step was to cut a piece of floss about 12 inches long to use to tie it. I used my hand to make the first four and then a piece of cardboard to make the long one (for the middle).

2 – Once you’ve made your tassels, attach jump rings to each one (I used the largest ones in my assorted pack).

3 – Use the pliers to make your chain size; you want it to make up about half of your necklace.

4 – Attach tassels to the chain with your pliers to make sure you close them as tightly as possible.

5 – String a long piece of suede through both ends of the chain and use a mirror to ensure you tie off the suede at the length you wanted.

6 – Enjoy your new necklace!

Hope you enjoyed this tutorial – jewelry making intimidates me so much, but this wasn’t too bad at all!

Have a great start to the week!
