Five Things for Friday

Happy Friday!

We saw The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 last night! Oh. Em. Gee. LOVED it! Hopefully, I’ll get to see it again…and again…and again. I was so happy for finally see the last film in the series, but sad it’s over. My SO really enjoyed it, too, as it had it all: laughter, tears, suspense. Anyone else see it and love it?

Here are your Five Six Things for Friday!

CarnivalSpent a little time on the Carnival Cruise Line’s Elation yesterday morning. The Saints and Carnival are teaming up to fight hunger with Second Harvest.

Have a great weekend!

Yay for Kendra Scott in NOLA!

Saturday was a big day, y’all…first [of likely MANY] trips to the new Kendra Scott store that just opened in New Orleans!

I’ve become a little obsessed with their pieces the last few years, but couldn’t be more excited to be able to shop in person! I’ll let the photos speak for themselves–the space is beautiful. From the light fixtures, to the Color Bar and all of the displays… can I move in? It’s just so pretty — I apologize for the geeking out over a store, but I had never been in one before, I’ve only shopped online.

I purchased two items: the Mable Silver Necklace in Mirror Rock Crystal and the Alex Earrings in White Howlite. All of the pieces I’ve purchased in the past had gold hardware, so I was excited to purchase a few in silver. The other great thing about the soft opening that Kendra Scott hosted on Saturday was the gift with purchase — a free pair of Danielle Earrings in Black Iridescent if you spend $50. They’re so pretty and different from anything I have — I’m excited to wear them!

If you’re local, stop by the store (5757 Magazine St. near Whole Foods) — I mean, how amazing is that fireplace?! Also — sign up for the Kendra Scott newsletter — you get 50% one piece during your birthday month!

Happy shopping — have a great day!

Five…err…Four Things for Friday

It has been a long week! I can’t remember the last time I’ve felt so crappy for so many days in a row. I’m excited for tonight — first home Pelicans preseason game [and thankfully last one before the regular season starts].

Looking forward to a quiet weekend, however, the opening of the Kendra Scott store is tomorrow — SO excited! I have a dinner on Saturday night on the Northshore, too, but nothing too crazy.

Happy Friday!

Fresh flowers are my favorite. The pink ones haven’t lasted too long, but the others have lasted more than two weeks!

Had the chance to experience my first LSU home game when they played Florida last weekend. Had a blast!

Sunday lunch outside with delicious eats and fun shadows at Butcher. I had the BBQ pork sandwhich — the Smoked Turkey is usually my go-to. Both are amazing.

Your weekly dose of Jersey & JoJo. Cuteness overload.

Have a great weekend!

Weekend Recap & Tassel Necklace DIY

Happy Monday!

It’s a heck of a lot happier after the Saints win last night! Night games at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome are always special — the energy and crowd are always incredible. If you’re a sports fan, add it to your must-visit stadium list and come for a primetime game!

Last night’s game was the Saints’ Breast Cancer Awareness game at home. During pre-game, Katie Kelly was honored as a breast cancer survivor. She is so strong, inspiring and wonderful. You can learn more about her story here. It was so fun to hang out with her husband, his friend, Katie and her twin sister, Carrie, who I’ve known since we moved here, during pre-game and cheer for her during the presentation.

Friday night we went to Payton’s Play It Forward Foundation’s Black & Gold Gala at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. It was a beautiful event that benefited three amazing causes – Feed the Children, K9s for Warriors and Team Gleason. I feel so lucky to have been a part of the event’s committee – it was an incredible group of people to work with!

Had to borrow this great photo from Dennis Lomonaco’s Facebook page. IMG_1263IMG_1261

IMG_1274  IMG_1271Darius Rucker and Better Than Ezra performed, which was a blast, and the program included incredibly moving videos about each beneficiary. The highlight was meeting one of the veterans, Erick, and visiting with him and his SUPER sweet dog, Gumbo. We enjoyed spending time with the veterans and they all seemed to enjoy the evening so much. K9s for Warriors is such an incredible program and the dogs save the lives of soldier suffering from PTSD. The video showed a staggering statistic — 22 soldiers with PTSD commit suicide every day. The organization is saving so many lives.

With Suzanne (American Diabetes Association) and Morgan (Feed the Children); both used to work with the Hornets. Morgan was one of the first people I met when we moved to New Orleans.

Switching gears…

Today’s DIY is one that I really enjoyed creating. I am obsessed with tassels! I found a similar DIY one P.S. I Made This and wanted to create my own — using red for the upcoming Pelicans season, of course!

-Suede lace

-Embroidery floss

-Assorted jump rings

-Crimping pliers

-Chain-nose pliers

1 – Make your tassels. I can’t find it now, but I found a tutorial on Pinterest that was very easy to follow. The first step was to cut a piece of floss about 12 inches long to use to tie it. I used my hand to make the first four and then a piece of cardboard to make the long one (for the middle).

2 – Once you’ve made your tassels, attach jump rings to each one (I used the largest ones in my assorted pack).

3 – Use the pliers to make your chain size; you want it to make up about half of your necklace.

4 – Attach tassels to the chain with your pliers to make sure you close them as tightly as possible.

5 – String a long piece of suede through both ends of the chain and use a mirror to ensure you tie off the suede at the length you wanted.

6 – Enjoy your new necklace!

Hope you enjoyed this tutorial – jewelry making intimidates me so much, but this wasn’t too bad at all!

Have a great start to the week!

Five Things for Friday

It’s the weekend! Hope everyone has some fun stuff planned — after a great dinner at Borgne catching up with a wonderful friend last night, I have an event tonight and the Saints play on Sunday Night Football against the Dallas Cowboys.

Two sweet puppies I know got haircuts today! They are happy about it, I swear — they’re very focused on the treats in my hand in this picture. Thanks, All-Star Animal Clinic!

Dress details for tomorrow night’s Black & Gold Gala.

One of my friends and her husband opened their second location of Bevi Seafood Co. today in New Orleans’ Mid-City area. It’s just as delicious as the first location! I split the pimento grilled cheese and the debris fries with a friend — AMAZING! This is a must-try for New Orleanians and tourists. It’s become one of my new go-to spots when friends are in town.

Mockingjay Part 2 comes out on November 20, officially, but we got our tickets for a showing on the 19th — I couldn’t be more excited! Can’t wait for the final installment of the Hunger Games. #TeamPeeta

Lastly, I found out tonight that I won an Instagram contest for a $250 gift card for myself and a friend for Lyon+Post. SUCH a great idea — you shop online, they send your choices free of charge so you can try them on in your own home with your own accessories, you keep what you want, pay for it and send back what you don’t. Can’t wait to try it!

Have a great weekend!
